How it Works
The Trima Accel Collection System is an online, automated centrifuge that separates whole blood into leukoreduced components for collection based on donor physiology and blood count. Using innovative, single-stage technology, the Trima Accel Collection System delivers state-of-the-art separation efficiency and reduced procedure times, so you process less blood volume. The Trima Accel Collection System gives your operators the option to use higher whole-blood-to-AC ratios to reduce donation times even more.
Designed for flexibility, the Trima Accel Collection System collects platelets, red blood cells, and plasma, letting your center decide what to collect. Yield scaling factor is configured right in the Trima Accel Collection System so you can calibrate the device to your blood center's counter. You'll maintain control over determining yields needed to meet your collections goals.
Operations simplicity
Manually configuring and adjusting collections takes time — time you'd rather spend with donors. The Trima Accel Collection System's touch-screen graphical interface is simplified, so operators need very little training to get started. System design makes for easy operations — just load your tubing set on top, snap in a cassette and you're ready to go.
Donor safety
Keeping donors within safe donation levels is a key priority. To maintain donor safety, the Trima Accel Collection System includes a proprietary safety technology that bases collections on each donor's unique physiology. Your blood center configures the hard limit boundaries of the Safety Box for:
- Total volume collected
- Platelet post count
- Post hematocrit
- Time
Within those boundaries, the Safety Box makes decisions about what procedures are safe to collect. Once connected to a donor, the Trima Accel Collection System automatically determines what procedures qualify. Component combinations outside the limits are never an option. Your operators select safe procedures that help you reach today's collection goals.
Component collection: Red blood cells

Using the Trima Accel Collection System, your center can collect customized red blood cell (RBC) products with highly consistent volume and hemoglobin content. Define up to three RBC products — with absolute RBC volumes that can range between 35 and 550 mL — to match specific patient needs. Even with this variation in procedure, the Trima Accel Collection System still delivers a consistent RBC product.
With the Trima Accel Collection System, you can collect a concurrent red blood cell with platelets and/or plasma or collect two RBCs simultaneously.
Platelets

The Trima Accel Collection System collects single-donor platelets, including double or triple platelet products, depending on individual donor physiology. The system lets you pre-define up to six platelet products with customized yield, volume and/or concentration for each product. Sophisticated prediction algorithms ensure highly consistent platelet yields.
The Trima Accel Collection System's integrated LRS technology delivers reliable leukoreduction of platelet products — without the platelet loss typically seen with post-collection filtration. The built-in process control feature lets your operator know when the product contains <1x106 residual white blood cells (WBC) per product. Platelet products are leukoreduced and ready-to-store — no need for additional handling or processing.
Plasma

Your blood center has eight unique options to define the desired plasma products. Specify up to six fixed volumes for the collection of standardized plasma units. The other two let your center maximize the plasma yield within given procedural and donor-dependent limits.
Plasma units collected on the Trima Accel Collection System meet current standards for clotting factor concentration and platelet contamination. Plasma† is leukoreduced in-process to less than 1x106 residual white blood cells per product. Plasma collected using the Trima Accel Collection System is usable as fresh frozen plasma or as source plasma for subsequent processing.

†Leukoreduced plasma is not a licensed product in the USA.
*Absolute system safety limits: Maximum donation volume=15%TBV. Minimum post-donation platelet count=50,000 x 109/L. Minimum post-hematocrit=30% Maximum donation time=150 minutes.
